What facilities are there for my dog?
Water Treadmill: We
have a Hydrophysio water treadmill. This is invaluable for gait
retraining especially for dogs with spinal injuries.
Hydrotherapy Pool:
Our large heated hydrotherapy pool measures 10 metres x 5
metres x 1.2 metres deep. Our water temperature is a warm 30°C.
We acheive the highest water quality using advanced technology in
filtration and purification. Water quality is tested and recorded
three times daily.
We do not use hoists. Animals that cannot walk, or need extra assistance,
are carried in on a stretcher and floated off in our arms. Access
is via a gently sloping ramp with a shallow platform for paddling.
Resting platforms at either end of the pool allow physiotherapy,
stretching, massage and therapeutic exercise to take place supported
by the water.
Swim jets are used to create a variable water flow. These can be
adjusted for position and strength depending on the size, strength
and condition of the animal. Jets can help encourage movement in
the water when animals have suffered neurological damage or limb
paralysis.
A fully trained hydrotherapist will always be in the water with
your animal for assisted sessions. If your animal is especially
nervous, disabled or needs positional correction, up to two or three
more hydrotherapists will also be in the water.
Life jackets and harnesses in all sizes help with extra confidence
and control and are a vital aid for disabled animals.
Pre and post hydrotherapy facilities: On arrival
a shower is available next to the pool so that mud can be removed
and our water kept clean. A second shower is available for dogs
to be shampooed following their hydrotherapy session. Three dedicated
drying huts are equipped with air blasters and hairdryers.

What
should I do when I first arrive at Greyfriars?
Please
leave your dog(s) in your car and report to reception.
Always check with us
before bringing your dog into the swimming area – your dog
might be wonderful with other dogs but not all dogs are.
Please remember we have
injured dogs on the premises that can feel threatened or could be
hurt by normal friendly behaviour.
Keep your dog on a lead
at all times until a member of staff tells you that it is safe to
release.
Always have a collar
on your dog. Dogs without collars pose a health and safety risk
to members of staff, clients and other dogs.
Staff members
are under strict instructions regarding collars and leads on dogs
– please listen to them. These rules are for everybody's safety
and comfort.

My dog is very heavy, will there be anyone
to help me lift him?
We will give as much or as little help as you require from car park
arrival to departure. We have portable ramps and trolleys available
to assist with getting your dog in and out of the car if you need
them.
What do I need to bring with me?
Your dogs' vaccination certificate.
No food for at least 2 hours
before swimming.
Please toilet your dog before
they enter the swimming area – lawn available on site but
please poop-scoop.
We do understand toilet accidents will happen with disabled dogs
– please don’t be embarrassed we are used to it! If
you need help with cleaning up please ask us. Some disabled dogs
are difficult to keep clean when toileting and we will shower your
dog prior to swimming if necessary.
Wear suitable clothing – you may get splashed!
Please bring towels for your dog.

Rules on cleanliness
If your dog poops – Please clean up. Ask
if you need a poop bag or help – we do not mind as accidents
will happen. Use the designated
grassed area to toilet your dog – please do not take them
down the track as fast moving vehicles make this dangerous. Using
the verges is unpleasant and unhealthy for our neighbours, other
people and animals.
